Fostering transparency and equity in Portland’s creative industry.

As the Design for Good Director of the AIGA Portland chapter since late-2020, I’ve spent the last 3+ years developing and launching this initiative with a small and devoted group of volunteers.

Scope

• Creative Strategy
• Visual Identity
• Visual Guidelines/System
• Website Design
• Surveys
• Social Media Collateral
• Resource Hubs
• Equity Report

GOALS

Foster greater transparency of DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) efforts in Portland’s creative industry.

Provide resources that enable action.

Build this initiative with community every step of the way.

Community-driven from the start

We partnered with Oregon State University’s FLUX team to help us develop our brand. FLUX is a junior/senior university student team that acts as a creative agency, taking on real-life projects with local organizations to get industry experience. Over the course of 10 weeks we worked together, along with HUB Collective (acting as mentor to OSU), to develop a logo, color palette, icon pack, and character library.

Building on the basics

With a solid visual base to build upon, we added typography and a graphic pack.

The results are in!

We collected data from our inaugural 2022 Survey for Creatives and compiled it into our first report. We shared it publicly so creatives can better understand the state of DEIB in the workplace. We can’t change what we don’t measure.

150+ volunteer hours went into making this.
